Problems that installers have with gates are most commonly caused by a lack of good, gate post construction. Byan Systems, Inc., recommends that an equal amount of the post should be above and below ground. The hole for the gate post should be at least 36" and filled with concrete. These recommendations should be followed even with light, aluminum gates because of ground heave and the cantilever effect of the gate itself.
